Slick Back Side Effects

Welcome and welcome back to this week's blog entitled slick back side effects. Every week on this account we dig into new, upcoming and even past fashion trends and we decide if they are fashionable or have WAY too many flaws to be called fashionable.

Slick backs have taken the media by storm this past year. If the name slick back isn't ringing a bell for you I will insert a picture below: These hairstyles can be worn by men or women they are a "timeless classic" The slick back trend for women has became an aspect of the new trend the  "clean girl aesthetic"

Even though these hair styles are super cute and practical especially if you have hair that tends to be oily. They have MAJOR side effects including: Traction alopecia ( hair loss caused by prolonged and excessive pulling or tension on the hair follicles)  which leads to hair breakage and EVEN a receding hair line.

Scalp and Skin issues

Not only do they cause significant hair loss but the tension also can cause a inflamed, itchy and stinging scalp.

All the products used to slick down the hair ( gels) can also clog your pores which is bad for your overall hair health.

They also DRY out your hair.

people with curlier hair have even said often use has damaged their curls.

Reversible?

IF you notice these side effects quickly then YES most of the time they can be reversed.
 HERE'S HOW:

First start by varying your hairstyle. Just doing  ANY hairstyle all the time is not good for your hair but especially with slick backs because of the tension.

TIP!!!!! --- Use a styling cream instead of pulling your hair back super tightly.

Also when brushing your hair to go into hairstyles be gentle NOT to cause breakage

WASH REGULARLY - to avoid product build up leading to a dry and irritated scalp.

-consult a professional if you notice these things when doing your hair and stop the hairstyle

Wear your hair loose in a bun or low pony and watch out for pain caused by tension.

Are they all bad?

The short answer  would just be no, they are not. Just be careful when wearing them too often as it can cause build up and irritation as mentioned above. When worn at appropriate levels this hairstyle can benefit any outfit and neckline. Fashionable for formal events or just running errands.

Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez, Brad Pitt, Zendaya and even Leonardo DiCaprio  have been seen wearing their hair slicked back. One we all definitely know is the Glinda in the new Wicked Movies Ariana Grande who everyone knows wheres a high pony/bun majority of the time. ⇩(Ariana grande is below)
