How not to do it?
It has recently come to my attention that when people think of plaid they think of lumber jacks (lumberjack-Lumberjack is a mostly North American term for workers in the logging industry who perform the initial harvesting and transport of trees) Thank you Wikipedia. Okay let's get into the NOT to's. First of all Plaid needs to not take over your outfit. Besides pajama sets, you should pick one item and make it plaid for a POP It should be used to draw attention to certain parts of your outfit and add an extra detail to basic ones. As we see later, plaid takes many different shapes from a more simple black and white square,to lines!
2025 PLAID
Every year trends change.THIS WE KNOW, Plaid is another fashion trend affected every year on how it is styled. NY fashion week has an astonishing impact on fashion too. Plaid was featured in this years fashion show. Shown below! Plaid is no longer styled like it is 2016! We use different types of plaid instead of just the classic red tied around your waist!
Morgan Gilroy
Morgan Gilroy is a character in a show that is still putting out its episodes for season two every Wednesday (on Hulu and Disney accounts with Hulu) called High Potential! She is Kaitlin Olson. Most of her outfits on the show are highly controversial as they are "out there" meaning their extra, extravagant very maximalist. She has been seen sporting furry coats with skirts, graphic tees and boots as her normal fit. While I do agree some of her outfits have just had no correlation, at least she is bringing plaid back. ( as seen below)
Every Day people styling plaid!
Plaid has a big part in many fashion trends but a big one that comes to mind is Dark Academia! I will put one example below. The dark academia aesthetic definitely isn't for everybody but it is a great example on how to style plaid. In the example below especially. They matched the plaid colors to simple parts of their outfit, example one: the sweater vest. Example two: the bow.

I believe that thrifting is a wonderful option not only to help your bank account but also the over-consumption and production crisis, This is just INSPO and I use H&M cause it has a wide variety of size options while still being mildly affordable. Meaning a top isn't 700 but instead maybe 35.
I also see H&M has many more deals when you go in person to stores. They normally have an amazing clearance section!
Outfit Two (Styling Plaid)
Leaning into the fact that I think 2026 will bring back the maxima-list vibe I think that a pop jacket like this is perfect! The turtleneck belongs underneath it. The pop of red is a dream!
